Part-Time Interim Director of Music Ministry
Location: Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 143 Lincoln Street, North Easton, MA
Reports to: Pastor/Deacon
Status: Part-Time, Interim (Approx. 15-20 hours/week)
Start Date: October 1, 2025
Compensation: $22,000-$26,000 annually
Position Summary
Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, an ELCA community in North Easton, MA, is seeking a spiritually grounded, musically gifted, and organized individual to serve as our Part-Time Interim Director of Music Ministry. This interim role will lead and coordinate the musical life of the congregation during worship and seasonal celebrations, while helping the church discern its long-term music ministry needs.
Primary Responsibilities
- In collaboration with the Pastor/Deacon, plan and lead music including hymns, liturgical settings, and special music for one weekly Sunday worship service (beginning 9:45 AM). Selections should align with the lectionary, liturgical calendar, and skills of participants.
- Direct and rehearse with the adult choir (rehearsals typically once per week, September through June).
- Provide accompaniment (piano and/or organ) for worship services, including congregational singing and choir anthems.
- Optional: Direct, rehearse, and play with the bell choir. Direct and rehearse with the children’s choir. Ensembles typically rehearse and perform on an ad hoc basis September through June.
- Coordinate, schedule, and rehearse with soloists, instrumentalists, and guest musicians as needed.
- Plan and provide music for special services (Advent, Christmas, Holy Week, midweek Lent, Easter, funerals, weddings, etc.) in collaboration with the Pastor/Deacon.
- Maintain the church’s music library and instruments. Use One License application to make sure all music licensing requirements are met.
- Attend worship planning meetings and communicate regularly with church leadership.
- Assist in managing the worship budget.
- Discern and develop the musical gifts of the congregation. Recruit and train members to participate in the musical life of the church to the extent possible.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated proficiency in piano; organ proficiency preferred.
- Ability to direct a choir and lead congregational singing.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate with Pastor/Deacon, staff, and volunteers.
- Prior experience in church music leadership preferred.
- Ability to direct and play with the bell choir and direct the children’s choir preferred.
- Comfort with both traditional and contemporary sacred music. Familiarity with Lutheran liturgy and hymnody preferred (primary text is Evangelical Lutheran Worship, secondary text is All Creation Sings).
Additional Details
- This is an interim position, expected to last one or more years with the possibility of extension or transition to permanent depending on congregational needs and mutual interest.
- Availability for funerals and weddings, with additional compensation, is appreciated but not required.
